Update on the Quebec First Nations health and social services governance process

Even if the FNQLHSSC is continuing its work on the realization of the model, the current situation comes with certain constraints that are causing delays in the initial schedule.

Given the rapid but still uncertain evolution of the pandemic, it is difficult to determine when it will be possible to continue the work associated with the governance process in collaboration with the First Nations communities and organizations. In the meantime, the FNQLHSSC is analyzing different options for resuming the co-development work on the health and wellness governance model, including the community visits, as well as the next regional meeting. We will keep you informed of the most recent developments.

An opportunity for further individual and collective reflection

By disrupting the progress of the work that was planned for this year, the current situation has provided a break that can be used collectively to continue the reflection about the changes to come, and to take stock of all the progress made since the beginning of the process in 2013. Even if this break is certainly not synonymous with time off work and we all remain busy in our respective fields, why not try to take a little time to learn more about or get updated on the governance process?

With that in mind, here are some interesting suggestions for reading material and tools to stay informed and prepare for when work resumes:

  • Summary report of the regional meeting in January 2020

The regional meeting on January 21 and 22, 2020, which brought together more than 100 participants, made it possible to continue the co-development work on a concrete model of effective health and wellness governance. You can now access the summary report of this meeting by clicking here: https://gouvernance.cssspnql.com/en/publications/. You will find, among other things, the presentation on the new governance model, elements to clarify the model and the implementation of the tripartite memorandum of understanding.

  • Toolbox

This toolbox was designed at the request of the Health and Social Services Directors of the First Nations communities and organizations in Quebec. Its objective is to facilitate reflection, understanding of the governance process and local and collective mobilization, in addition to supporting and guiding First Nations communities and organizations in terms of communication and action in the context of change.

Thanks to practical and easy-to-use tools available in various formats and themes such as avenues for reflection, fact sheets, presentations, videos and tips and advice for mobilization, the toolbox breaks down the information to be shared with the different audiences and thus promotes a better local and collective understanding of the process. Available at https://gouvernance.cssspnql.com/en/toolbox/, this toolbox has five sections:

1. What is governance?

2. Why the need for health and social services governance?

3. The new governance model

4. Change management

5. Mobilization

Enjoy your reading and see you very soon to continue the work!
